Here's What Your City Aldermen Will Be Discussing Tonight

Sign approval for several new businesses at St. Charles and Route 83, and several bid awards for parking deck and roof repair are on the consent agenda.

Elmhurst City Council will meet tonight, Monday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 209 N. York St.

The meeting will be preceded by a closed session at 7 p.m. to discuss threatened/imminent litigation.

The open meeting will begin with a presentation of the Kickoff for Kids Star Teacher Award to Cindy Killips of Jefferson School. This will be followed by a grant presentation to the police department from Elmhurst Toyota, and a recognition for Peer Jury outgoing member Sgt. Mike McLean.

The public will then be invited to address the council for up to three minutes on any topic.

Public comment will be followed by approval of the consent agenda. In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda includes the following items:

  • Recommendation for a stop signs at Oak and First streets (referral to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee for review)
  • Request that the city implement an incentive program for office space redevelopment in the central business district.  The purpose of the program would be for owners of the properties to work with the city to redevelop aging office space into more modern office space, making it more desirable to businesses looking to relocate to downtown Elmhurst (referral to the Development, Planning and Zoning Committee for review)
  • Approval of construction engineering services for the curb and gutter, pavement and sidewalk projects along West Avenue from First Street to Lake Street, and on Spring Road, from Vallette to Harrison
  • Formal approval of the grant/lease agreement between Metra and the City of Elmhurst. Metra will provide a $2.5 million grant to the city toward construction costs of the parking deck at Larch and First in exchange for the city providing designated parking spaces for Metra commuters.
  • Approval of purchase of a return-activated sludge pump for $32,556. The pump can move thick liquid and is an important part of the liquid/solid separation process at the Elmhurst Wastewater Reclamation facility.
  • Approval to establish a bi-monthly service charge for sewage treatment of $80.86 for customers with private water wells
  • Approval for the city to participate in the Illinois Metropolitan Investment Fund, a local government investment pool
  • Approval of wall sign variations for the south side of St. Charles Road at Route 83. The applicant is proposing seven signs: Two for Smashburger, measuring 59 square feet each; one for Potbelly, 51.48 square feet; one for Total Hockey, 110 square feet; one for Qdoba, 3.4 square feet; and two for Verizon, 47.3 square feet each.
  • Approval of sale by auction of a 1996 Honda Odyssey minivan used by the Police Department
  • Approval of an ordinance raising water and sewer rates for residents by 8 percent each
  • Bid award for replacement of roof sections of the Elmhurst Fire Academy burn tower at 910 Addison Ave. to Eugene Matthew Inc. at a cost of $48,485
  • Bid award for maintenance and repairs to the Adelaide parking deck to JLJ Contracting Inc. at a cost of $73,320
  • Bid award to replace the roof at the Elmhurst Historical Museum Education Center to Scandia Construction Inc at a cost of $25,370

The meeting will conclude with an update from Mayor Pete DiCianni and a status report on the progress of the stormwater comprehensive plan from Interim City Manager Mike Kopp.
