First City Council Meeting of 2012 Includes Discussion of Capital Projects

Agenda also includes approval of vehicle purchases and agreement with consulting firm for downtown streetscape improvements.

Elmhurst City Council will hold its first meeting of the year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at , 209 N. York St.

The meeting will begin with a public forum. Members of the audience will be invited to speak on any topic for up to three minutes.

In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda will include the following items:

  • A review and update of the municipal code to reflect the merger of Elmhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2048 with the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 will be referred to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee.
  • A final draft ordinance for the creation of a Class BF liquor license for use by banquet facilities will be referred to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee.
  • Approval to authorize by sale or auction a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck and plow. The vehicle was seized for driving offenses.
  • Approval of an ordinance to amend the municipal code as it relates to staggered terms for Youth Commission members
  • Approval of a resolution to approve a professional consulting services agreement with Transystems Corp. for streetscape improvements at a cost of $102,500. The work will include new curb and gutters, construction of new brick paver sidewalks and tree wells, and the installation of ornamental streetlights in the downtown area. The city received a grant for the work; federal funding will cover 80 percent, with the city paying the remaining 20 percent. TranSystems will provide design engineering, which includes public meetings with the city and the Illinois Department of Transportation, completion of a topographic survey, design, and contract and document preparation.
  • Approval of a resolution authorizing the purchase of four Ford Explorer special service vehicles for the police and fire departments. Roesch Ford of Bensenville will provide the vehicles at a cost of $26,400 for one and $28,410 each for the remaining three, for a total cost of $111,630.

Mayor Pete DiCianni will then make any announcements, and aldermen will hear a report from City Manager Jim Grabowski on the 2012-2013 portion of the five-year capital expenditure budget.
