Elmhurst Sued by Insurance Company for Last Year's Flooding

Illinois Farmers Insurance says city didn't do what was necessary to prevent damage from the flood.

Illinois Farmers Insurance Company is suing Elmhurst, claiming the city failed to do its duty to prevent damage during the flooding of April 2013.

The class-action suit was filed April 17 against Elmhurst and 28 other municipalities, including DuPage County, reports Suburban Life. The suit states the rain was "reasonably manageable" on April 17 and April 18 of last year, though Gov. Pat Quinn declared 48 counties disaster areas in the aftermath of the storms, which flooded Elmhurst with 7 inches of rain.

City officials told Suburban Life they are reviewing the suit and have no comment.
