Elmhurst Sets Saturday Refuse Collection Dates for Spring Clean Up
Crews will pick up furniture and other bulk items from your spring cleaning three consecutive Saturdays.
If you’ve been putting off cleaning out your basement, attic or storage shed, the city has set aside three Saturdays when residents can pitch their old sofas, carpets, furniture and other accumulated household items curbside.
The Saturday pickup service is available to residents living within the city limits. The following dates for Elmhurst’s Spring Clean-Up have been designated based on residents’ regular refuse pick-up day:
- Spring Clean-Up, Saturday, April 26 (regular refuse pick-up Wednesdays)
- Spring Clean-Up, Saturday, May 3 (regular refuse pick-up Thursdays)
- Spring Clean-Up, Saturday, May 10 (regular refuse pick-up Fridays)

Furniture
Paint (hardened in cans with lids off)
Carpet (must be in rolls no more than five feet in length and two feet in diameter)
Construction and demolition debris (up to two cubic yards or equal to eight 33-gallon cans and placed in boxes, cans, or bundles)
Landscape timbers (must be no longer than three feet in length)
Unacceptable items:
Ammunition
Boats or snowmobiles
Bricks, concrete blocks, cement, or asphalt pavement
Car batteries
Electronic devices
Explosives
Fluids
Hazardous or medical waste
Large automobile parts
Radioactive materials
Riding lawnmowers or snowblowers
Tires
Materials are not to be placed by the curb until the day prior to the Saturday collection. Crews will start picking up refuse at 6 a.m. on the designated Saturday.
Items other than furniture, large appliances and bulk items must be placed in bags, cans or boxes, not to exceed 50 pounds each.
