Elmhurst City Council Meets Tonight at 7:30

Here's a look at the agenda.

Elmhurst City Council will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 209 N. York St. The public meeting will follow a 6:30 p.m. executive session of the council to discuss appointment, employment or compensation of an officer.

The first order of business will be the presentation of certificates of achievement to SkillsUSA state qualifiers and Nick Cosentino, ISU Illinois Drafting educator. The council also will recognize Edison teacher Tammy Dospoy for receiving the Kick Off for Kids Star Educator Award.

Public comment will follow the recognition. Speakers will have up to three minutes to speak on any topic.

In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda tonight will include:

  • Ice cream cart: Brain Freeze is requesting a permit for a cart to sell La Real Gourmet fruit bars from noon to 9 p.m. daily at the corner of Schiller and York streets. The city will refer the matter to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee
  • Intersection of Montrose and Sunnyside: Aldermen Chris Healy and Scott Levin  are requesting a four-way stop at this intersection to replace yield signs. The matter will be referred to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee.
  • An ordinance authorizing the sale by auction of a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer SUV, a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis and a 2001 Buick Century
  • An ordinance allowing Elmhurst Jaycees to use Park Avenue between Prospect and Myrtle streets for its annual carnival. If approved, Jaycees will have access to the road between June 6-13.
  • An ordinance allowing Elmhurst Park District to use the municipal parking lot on Addison between First and Second streets for its Bicycle Rodeo May 21.

Mayor Pete DiCianni will then provide any updates and announcements, and City Manager Tom Borchert and attorney Don Storino will discuss 2011-13 City Council orientation and review of policies and practices.
