For the seventh consecutive year, DuPage County received the highest form of recognition in government budgeting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States.

DuPage County Finance Chairman Paul Fichtner of Elmhurst (District 1) said the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is in recognition of outstanding budget preparation for the current fiscal year.

“This award validates the county’s dedication to fiscal responsibility and transparency," Fichtner said. "We are committed to responsible budgeting and are grateful for this national recognition for our efforts.”

The county’s budget is reviewed annually by the GFOA to assess how well it meets nationally recognized guidelines as a policy document, financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. The county’s budget documents were rated “proficient” in all four categories, including the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin of Elmhurst said the award is a significant accomplishment.
