City Expected to Enter Agreement with Verizon, Award Several Bids and Give Final Nod to Tax Rebates

Meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and the public is invited to speak.

Elmhurst City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 15, at City Hall, 209 N. York St. The meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss pending litigation, and security procedures and the use of personnel.

First up on the City Council's agenda is public comment. Members of the community are invited to speak for up to three minutes apiece.

This will be followed by the consent agenda. In addition to approval of meeting minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda includes the following items:

  • Bid results for 2011 sidewalk replacement, referral to the Public Works and Buildings Committee. Four bids were received between $94,000 and $120,000.
  • Bid results for two Ford Expedition special service vehicles, referral to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee. Six bids were received between $30,400 and $33,000.
  • Historic Preservation Commission report, referral to the Development, Planning and Zoning Committee. The commission would like to nominate the home at 208 S. Arlington Ave. for landmark status. 
  • Acceptance of a bid from McCann Industries Inc. for the purchase of two loader backhoes for $134,000 
  • Extension of the agreement with Baxter & Woodman engineers to include construction and loan assistance services for the new anaerobic digester for the waste water reclamation facility
  • Acceptance of a proposal from Water Well Solutions for $47,000 to remove and seal well #6
  • Approval of the property tax rebate program. Residents making 60 percent of the 2011 median income for DuPage County, which is $44,880 for a family four, will qualify.
  • Approval of a request for a rear yard variance of 7 feet at 444 E. Madison St.
  • Ordinance accepting a proposal from Verizon Wireless for celular phone service
  • Ordinance adding stop signs at Montrose and Rex, Vallette and Rex, Fairview and Prairie Path Lane, and Sunnyside and Prairie Path Lane 
  • Ordinance adding another classification of liquor license, which was prompted by unique circumstances at Angelo's restaurant
  • Award a bid for asphalt rejuvenation to Corrective Asphalt Materials, the lowest bidder at $45,500
  • Award a bid for concrete pavement patching to Kings Point General Cement, the lowest bidder at $105,350
  • Award a bid for generator replacement at the waste water treatment plant to Newcastle Electric, the lowest bidder at $320,000

Following a vote on the consent agenda, the City Council will hear updates from the mayor and wrap up any other business or announcements.
