City Council Will Hear a Presentation from ComEd Monday

Aldermen also will vote on $20,000 allocation to the retail grant program, as well as bids for sewer main repair, pickup truck purchase, roof repair, employee health insurance, York and Brush Hill engineering and mobile data terminals.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Representatives from ComEd will attend Monday's City Council meeting to give a presentation and respond to questions from the City Council after City Manager James Grabowski's stormwater plan update. The city also will recognize Preservation Award recipients Shirley and Willis Johnson of Classic Cinemas.

Elmhurst City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at , 209 N. York St. The public meeting will follow an executive session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss appointment, employment or compensation of a city officer or employee, and .

The open meeting will begin with public comments. Members of the community are invited to speak for up to three minutes on any topic.

In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda will include the following items:

  • Approval of the appointment of Gina Brigham to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Brigham, whose term would expire on May 1, 2012, would replace Donald Alexander, whose term expired in 2009.
  • Approval of the appointment of John DeVries and Richard J. Barnes Jr. to the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation with terms to expire in October 2014.
  • Approval of a proposal from RJN Group to replace the Atrium and Saylor Avenue sewer force mains. The Atrium 8-inch and Saylor Avenue 10-inch force mains have been failing repeatedly. The city intends to replace a 1,400-foot portion of the Atrium force main and all 2,850 feet of the Saylor Avenue force main. RJN, the firm selected as the most qualified in the city's bidding process, proposed a fee not to exceed $115,000 for the Saylor project and $66,600 for the Atrium project.
  • Acceptance of a bid from Roesch Ford of Bensenville in the amount of $40,277 each for two Ford F250 pickup trucks. Roesch was the only bidder of four to meet specifications.
  • Awarding of a liquor license for Back Alley Burger, 609 W. St. Charles Road
  • Approval of a request from the Elmhurst Park District to hold a Battle of the Bands on June 16 at the Addison Street parking lot
  • Approval of an ordinance making a minor amendment to the municipal code section on drag racing
  • Approval of a request from the Elmhurst YMCA to close First Street between Maple and Elm streets from noon to midnight Dec. 3 for the Blackhawk Road Show event
  • Approval of a new rate of $2.525 per thousand gallons for treatment of sanitary sewage from Illinois American Water Co.
  • Approval of the renewal of employee dental insurance from MetLife. Annual premium is $190,000.
  • Approval of the proposal from Blue Cross Blue Shield for employee health insurance. Annual premium is $3.6 million.
  • Approval of allocation of an additional $20,000 to the city's retail grant program
  • Approval of a proposal from Addison Construction and Roofing for $37,200 to replace the membrane roof at the city's wastewater treatment plant. The company submitted the lowest of three bids.
  • Approval of a side yard variance at 470 E. Vallette for the purpose of constructing a one-car detached garage
  • Approval of hiring Transystems Corp. for engineering services for York Street and Brush Hill Road intersection improvements. The company has proposed a total cost not to exceed $188,445. The project has received $1.05 million in federal funds.
  • Approval of the purchase of 25 Motorola mobile data terminals for the police department from Chicago Communications for $152,000

Council members will then hear updates from Mayor Pete DiCianni, and a progress report on the stormwater comprehensive plan from City Manager James Grabowski.

Aldermen will then vote on an ordinance to add stop signs at the Mitchell and McKinley Avenue intersection.
