Candidates File Petitions for April Election

City, School Board and Park District all have contested seats.

Seven seats on Elmhurst City Council—one in each ward—are up for grabs in the April 5 consolidated election. As of Monday, Dec. 13, four incumbents and three newcomers had filed petitions to run.

In the 1st Ward, incumbent Diane Gutenkauf filed to retain her seat, as did Steve Hipskind in the 4th Ward, Steve Morley in the 6th Ward and Mark Mulliner in the 7th.

In the 3rd Ward, newcomer Dannee Polomsky declared her intent to run for Susan Rose's seat.

Darlene Heslop will challenge Hipskind for his 4th Ward seat. They filed simultaneously, and a lottery was held Tuesday to determine their positions on the ballot. Hipskind will take the top spot.

Attorney Scott Levin will run for a 5th Ward seat in April, but he also is expected to be appointed Monday by Mayor Pete DiCianni to fill the seat vacated by Chris Nybo, who was elected to the 41st House District.

No one has yet filed for the 2nd Ward seat currently held by Pat Shea.

Four of the seven Elmhurst District 205 School Board seats are up for election. Those seats currently are held by board President Peggy Ostojic, Deborah O'Keefe Conroy, David Carlquist and Marta Davy. As of Monday, Paul Guerino and John McDonough had filed petitions to run.

Park commissioners serve six-year terms, and seats currently held by Mary Kies and Norm Reinertsen will be up for grabs in April. Kies and Anthony Pelosi have file their petitions.

Library Board seats are filled by appointment by DiCianni. Terms expiring this year are those of Rose Walsh, Phil Hupfer, Linda Wheaton and William Ryan.
