2010 Census Results: Elmhurst Demographics

Black and Hispanic population show large increases.

Over the past 10 years, the population of Elmhurst increased by 3.2 percent. The black population between 2000 and 2010 increased by 103 percent, while the Hispanic population increased nearly 69 percent.

These statistics represent a portion of the 2010 Census results, released last month by the U.S. Census Bureau. The data includes race and Hispanic origin data, which can be used to re-draw federal, state and local legislative districts.

The data includes the most populous incorporated places in Illinois: Chicago, 2,695,598; Aurora, 197,899; Rockford, 152,871; Joliet, 147,433; and Naperville, 141,853. Of the five, Chicago was the only place to see a population decrease since the 2000 Census—6.9 percent—while the other four saw an increase.

Cook County has the greatest population of all Illinois counties, with 5,194,675, but that number decreased 3.4 percent since 2000. DuPage County has the second largest population, with 916,924, which was an increase of 1.4 percent.
