Youngster House-sitting Cats Discovers Burglary

A gun also allegedly spotted near Salt Creek, arrests for DUI and drug paraphernalia, and a fight at York involves police.

Burglary

A juvenile who was taking care of the cats at a home on the 100 block of North Maple discovered that the home had been burglarized sometime between 2:15 and 4:29 p.m. Oct. 18. The two upstairs bedrooms had been rifled through, and police noticed one of the screens on a basement window had been removed. Several drawers on the second level were open. It was unknown what was missing at the time of the report because the owners were out of town.

Police described the offender as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, less than 6 feet tall with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue knit winter cap, a blue quilted jacket and jeans.

At about 2:15 p.m. the same day, police received a call for a suspicious person on the 200 block of North Larch, a man knocked on a door on the 200 block of North Larch and asked to speak to a certain person. The resident told him there was no one there by that name, and the man proceeded to leave on an older style bike. His description was similar to that of the suspect in the burglary on Maple, police said.

Man Calls in Gun Sighting Near Salt Creek

A man called police from Michigan at 3:54 p.m. on Oct. 18 to report he had seen a gun buried in the mud when he was walking along Salt Creek on Oct. 12. The caller emailed photos of the gun to police, who along with the Elmhurst Fire Department searched the area where the man believed he had seen the gun. It was never found.

DUI Arrests

Jason R. Barnes, 26, 237 Major Drive, Northlake, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over his black Cadillac CTS for failure to signal and improper right turn at York and Schiller at 1:01 a.m. Oct. 18. He was released on I-bond.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Kyle A. Hill, 21, 859 S. Colfax, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a black Toyota Scion he was riding in was pulled over for disobeying a traffic control device at Route 83 and Second Street at 8:18 a.m. Oct. 18. He was released on bond.

Aggravated Battery

Police were called to York High School, 355 St. Charles Road, at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17 after a fight broke out between two male students on the second floor, north atrium. One student had a swollen left eye and a cut along his eyelid. He identified the other student, and that student was sent to the dean's office. No charges have been filed, but an investigation is under way, according to the police report.
