Woman Beaten During Strong-Arm Robbery on Vallette Saturday Night

K-9 unit tracked the suspect to South Washington Street; charges are pending.

A woman was beaten by a man attempting to steal her purse at 130 W. Vallette Saturday night.

The woman told police while she was walking eastbound on Vallette at around 10 p.m. Sept. 22, a man attempted to grab her purse, then punched her about 10 times in the face. She tried to fight him off by kicking and screaming. They both fell to the ground, and she screamed and kicked him. Another citizen witnessed the crime.

The man fled the area and was hiding in the 500 block of South Washington Street, but was later tracked by K-9 Diesel. Police identified the man as Lino Velazquez, 27, 4157 W. 24th St., Chicago.

Velazquez was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital due to a medical issue and a high level of intoxication, police said. Charges are pending.

A mug shot is not yet available.

A mugging in a proposed TIF district? That's exciting. Any proposed plans for a currency exchange?

Excellent police work. I was driving down york rd when all the police cars came to the area. They did an amazing job in covering the streets, spreading out and working together. I've been checking the patch to see what all the comotion was and now I know.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
