Police Reports Include 106-mph DUI Ride and Aerosol Huffing in Kmart Shoe Department

Another suspect says a twitch made him crash into three parked cars.

Driving Under the Influence of Drugs

Hellen G. Kollar, 43, 318 N. Maple Ave., Wood Dale, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police pulled over her Nissan Altima for doing 106 miles per hour in a 50-mph zone at Route 83 and Interstate 290 at 9:25 a.m. May 25. Police said she eventually admitted to taking prescription drugs.

A woman was found in the shoe department of Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, sniffing a can of Maxwell Blast-Away multipurpose duster at around noon May 29. Officers caught up with her as she got into a Saturn. Her speech was slow and slurred, and she reportedly admitted to sniffing. She told officers she had a "hard day." She was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and a no-trespass notice was issued.

Xavier Arko, 25, 841 N. York Road Apt. 420, was arrested and charged with failure to report an accident after the black Honda Civic he was driving hit three parked vehicles at 841 N. York Road at 2:50 a.m. May 27. He told police he "had a twitch" that made him drive into the vehicles. He was released on bond.

Unlawful Use of a Weapon

Joshua S. Perez, 20, 573 Maple, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and driving without insurance after police pulled him over at Interstate 88 and York Road for speeding at 2:15 p.m. May 28. Police said he was in possession of metal knuckles. He was released on bond.

Possession of Cocaine

Efren Ramos, 37, 1255 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, Kan., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and illegal transportation of open alcohol after police pulled over a white GMC Yukon for seat belt violations at Melrose and North Avenue at 11:27 p.m. May 28. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Rafael Cordero-Rios, 57, 519 N. Valerie Lane Apt. 1, Addison, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol and released at the scene. The driver was charged with driving without a license and illegal transportation of open alcohol, but police did not release his name.

Fleeing and Eluding

A vehicle drove over several lawns before a suspect fled on foot from officers at 1:23 a.m. May 28. Police tried to pull the driver over for no headlights at York and Wrightwood when he took off at a high rate of speed. Police set up a perimeter and used a police dog to try to track him, but they were unsuccessful.
