Windows Smashed, Tires Slashed and Other Property Damage Reported

Damage incidences reported between Aug. 7 and 11.

A boy pushed a shopping cart into a vehicle parked at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 9:50 p.m. Aug. 7. Security personnel stopped the boy’s mother before she could leave the scene. The victim discovered a scrape on the bumper and a dent in the trunk. The offender’s mother said her son is autistic and accidentally pushed the cart into her vehicle, and she was willing to pay for damages, which are estimated at $700.

Someone shattered the driver-side front window of a vehicle parked in a lot on the 500 block of West Lake Street between 6:30 a.m. and 4:54 p.m. Aug. 9. Damage is estimated at $200.

Someone smashed the lower windows on the east side of the T-Mobile building at 361 S. Route 83, officers discovered at 3:43 a.m. Aug. 10. Police noticed a rock still inside the store. No entry was gained.

A sign reading “Sandburg Middle School Home of the Spartans” was knocked off of its supports sometime between 9 p.m. Aug. 9 and 5 a.m. Aug. 10. The sign was installed at the school, 345 E. St. Charles Road, three weeks ago and costs about $5,000.

The brick wall on the upper level of the Schiller parking deck, 118 E. Schiller St., was spraypainted with the words “Unsuccessful Sip” sometime between 3 p.m. Aug. 9 and 7:30 a.m. Aug. 10. The words were painted on the wall in slot #3065, taking up an area about 8 feet by 3 feet.

Someone projected a golf ball through a bedroom window of a home on the 100 block of East Schiller Street between 9:30 and 10:45 p.m. Aug. 9. Damage is estimated at $300.

A security officer noticed that someone painted the letters “U.S.” in black spray paint on the east wall of the sixth floor of the First Street parking deck, 175 W. First St., at 11:16 a.m. Aug. 10. Damage is estimated at $100.

Someone spray-painted a three-point crown and the word “U.S.” on the street at 274 W. Winthrop Ave. At about 1:30 a.m., Aug. 10, the victim’s son heard a horn honk and looked out the window. He saw three or four people in the driveway, but police weren’t notified until 12:10 p.m. that day. The victim said his 1968 Chevy truck was entered but nothing was missing.

The entrance sign at Crestview Park, 245 E. Crestview, was broken sometime between 10 p.m. Aug. 9 and 7 a.m. Aug. 10. The sign reportedly is made of high-impact foam and costs $2,000. Neighbors didn’t see or hear anything.

Someone broke the glass storm door on the front of a home on the 400 block of Highview between 8:30 a.m. and 5:57 p.m. Aug. 10. Damage is estimated at $500.

Someone broke the front passenger-side window of a vehicle parked at First and Elm streets between 6:12 and 6:55 p.m. Aug. 10. Damage is estimated at $300.

Someone smashed the driver-side window of a vehicle parked at First and Elm streets between 5:58 and 6:55 p.m. Aug. 10 and took a pair of sunglasses. Loss is estimated at $300.

Someone threw a “for sale” sign through the window of a 1996 Buick Century parked on the 300 block of Hillside between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 10 and 3:10 a.m. Aug. 11. The sign had been in front of the neighbor’s home, which is for sale.

Someone damaged the decorative lighting along the west driveway at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 3:55 a.m. Aug. 10 and 5:52 a.m. Aug. 11.

The rear tires of two vehicles parked on the 500 block of South Swain Avenue were slashed between 9 p.m. Aug. 10 and 6:28 a.m. Aug. 11.

A cement planter was smashed and a flag pole broken on the 500 block of South Swain Avenue between 2 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 11.

Someone knocked over a portable toilet at Pioneer Park, Mitchell and Prairie Path Lane. It was discovered at 7:25 a.m. Aug. 11.

Someone broke windows on two loaders on the Canadian National Rail Line at St. Charles Road. The damage was discovered at 7:47 a.m. Aug. 11.

Someone used a rock to smash out the rear window of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of Fairfield Avenue between 11 p.m. Aug. 10 and 8:04 a.m. Aug. 11.

Someone used a rock to smash out the rear window of a vehicle parked on the 300 block of Eggleston between 11 p.m. Aug. 10 and 8 a.m. Aug. 11.

Someone damaged a decorative wooden cedar glider bench on the front lawn of a home on the 300 block of Hawthorne Avenue between noon and 6 p.m. Aug. 11. Damage is estimated at $10.
