White Strips, Jewelry and Catalytic Converters Among Items Stolen in Elmhurst

Crimes listed on the Elmhurst police blotter from June 24-28.

Theft Arrest

Rocio Acevedo, 19, 1116 N. 21st Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 6 p.m. June 28 at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83. Acevedo, who is an employee at the store, allegedly placed a box of Crest White Strips, valued at $61.55, into her purse.

Burglary

Someone entered an unlocked home on the 700 block of South Parkside and rifled through the homeowner’s bedroom drawers between 3:30 and 6 p.m. June 28. Taken was a jewelry box and an iPad. Loss is estimated at $1,900.

Someone entered an open front door on the 100 block of North Maple and removed a briefcase that was sitting on the chair next to the door between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. June 28. The case contained a wallet with drivers license and numerous credit cards, a cell phone, house keys, car keys and various documents.

Theft

Someone took a black Guess purse from a desk on the 600 block of North York Road between 11:40 and 11:50 a.m. June 24. The purse contained a wallet with a drivers license, debit card, $10, and vehicle keys and title.

Someone took a backpack from an unlocked locker at YMCA, 211 W. First St., between 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. June 24. The backpack contained a wallet, drivers license, debit card and cell phone.

Someone took a Sears Gamefisher outboard boat motor from an unlocked shed on the 200 block of Poplar between noon June 17 and 5:31 June 24. Loss is about $200.

Someone broke a window on a vehicle parked at 633 W. North Ave. at 5:31 p.m. June 25 and removed a cell phone and purse containing a drivers license, debit card and $70. The debit card was used in Villa Park.

Someone took a diamond bracelet and gold necklace from an armoire in the bedroom of a home on the 100 block of North Larch between 7 p.m. June 18 and 9 a.m. June 25. Loss is estimated at $5,900.

Someone took a gray wallet, checks, jewelry and religious medals from a vehicle parked on the first block of North Highland Avenue between 7:30 p.m. June 24 and 10:30 a.m. June 25. Estimated loss is $700.

Someone took a diamond and sapphire ring valued at $7,500 from a home on the 700 block of Bryan between 5 a.m. June 21 and 7:30 p.m. June 27. There was no forced entry.

A man refused to pay American Taxi for a ride from West Butterfield Road to Chicago and back again at 2:24 a.m. June 28. Cab fare was $102.

Someone took five catalytic converters from five vehicles parked in the lot at Elite Car Outlet, 178 N. Route 83, between May 16 and 6 p.m. June 27. Loss is estimated at $1,000.

A man in his late 40s with an Italian accent, heavy build, dark hair and wearing a Chicago White Sox T-shirt went to Elmhurst Toyota, 440 W. Lake St., and asked to have a new key made for his Toyota Scion June 23. The total bill was $470.50. The suspect picked up the car and told the cashier to charge his company account, but there was no account open to charge. Staff at Elmhurst Toyota contacted the suspect’s company and they told him to send the bill to collections.
