Want to Explore a Career in Law Enforcement?

Young adults ages 14 to 22 are invited to the Elmhurst Police Explorers open house Monday.

Elmhurst Police Explorers will host an open house to accept new members on Monday, Oct. 7. Explorers is a program for kids as young as 14 through age 22 who would like to learn about a career in law enforcement and criminal justice.

Members of the Elmhurst Police Explorer Post 66 meet weekly for presentations and training at the Police Department. Topics include:

  • traffic stops
  • arrest procedure
  • building searches
  • domestic violence
  • crime prevention
  • handcuffing/arrest
  • defensive tactics
They also assist the City of Elmhurst with operations at events such as the Turkey Trot, St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Elmhurst Jaycee’s Carnival. Besides community service opportunities, Explorers also learn great life skills, like first aid, CPR and military drill, as well as good citizenship. The members also take an active leadership role in the post, which helps them build confidence and learn responsibility while leading their peers.

A number of Elmhurst police officers started out as Explorers. Anyone interested in joining the Elmhurst Police Explorers Post 66 should attend the open house for new members at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Elmhurst Police Department training room. This is a great opportunity to meet current members, learn about our program and become a member.
