VIDEO: Elmhurst Police Officers Stake Out Rooftops for Special Olympics

Elmhurst police were among hundreds of police officers who spent hours on the roofs of Dunkin' Donuts across Chicagoland Friday.

Hundreds of police officers from all over the Chicago area and throughout the state joined efforts to raise money for Special Olympics Friday. From 5 a.m. to around 2 p.m., police climbed up to the rooftops of Dunkin' Donuts in their communities and spent hours there.

Elmhurst police were taking collections at two Dunkin' Donuts locations in Elmhurst on Friday. They could be seen holding megaphones atop roofs at the North Avenue and Butterfield Road stores.

The annual "cop on top" fundraiser raises money for Special Olympics in Illinois. Last year, 111 locations across the Chicago area took part in the event, raising $207,000.
