'Unruly' Elmhurst Hospital Patient Threatened Security Guard With Collapsible Baton: Cops

The man will be cited for disorderly conduct when he is released from the hospital, police said.

It was the other kind of baton.
It was the other kind of baton.
An Elmhurst Hospital patient produced a collapsible baton and made a menacing statement to a security guard before the weapon was wrested away from him, police said.

About 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Elmhurst Hospital security reportedly alerted police of an incident where a "patient had become unruly with staff."

"When security entered the room (the patient) pulled out a collapsible baton, placing it in his tray, and made the statement, 'You're lucky you're more than 18 inches away from me,'" police said.

"The baton fell to the floor, where (the patient) bent down and grabbed it," police said. "Security subdued the subject and took the baton back from him."

The police said the man will be charged with disorderly conduct when he is discharged from the hospital. He had yet to be charged Thursday afternoon.
