Suspicious Circumstances

Young girls who were playing near the street in the area of Comstock and Garden were approached by a man in a black Chevy S-10 pickup or Ford Ranger with multiple rust spots and a silver tail gate at 5:32 p.m. Aug. 24. The man drove by them at a slow speed and held up a black and white puppy for them to see. The girls' mother saw the man and described him as Hispanic, 28 to 35 years old with dark colored hair and wearing a dirty white T-shirt. When the man saw the woman, he immediately put the puppy down and left the area at a high rate of speed.

A woman driving in traffic at Interstate 290 and York Road at 5 p.m. Aug. 23 saw a man pull up next to her in a red vehicle, look at her and make a threatening gesture, pretending to slice his throat. The victim told police she thinks this is a veiled threat sent from the father of her children, with whom she is battling for custody. She said she also has been followed by an unknown man.

A man told police that as soon as he exited the Pace bus that was headed southbound on York, south of Butterfield Road at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24, he was pushed to the ground by a white man wearing a crew neck T-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap. The man took his iPod and his wallet, which was in his rear pants pocket. The wallet contained $130, a state ID and reward cards. The victim didn't file a report until 10 p.m. that night because "he didn't think of it," police said. They searched the area but didn't find the victim's property.
