Two Out of Three People Arrested for DUI Were Involved in Crashes

Police also reported that an Elmhurst man was arrested for prowling Thursday.

DUI Arrests

Santiago Salazar, 57, 1515 N. 17th Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the green Toyota Corolla he was driving crashed into a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Elmhurst woman at North Avenue and Myrtle at 6:21 p.m. April 1. He also was cited for failure to report a crash, disobeying a traffic control device and driving without insurance. He was released on bond.

Krystal Berndy, 27, 19264 Janet, Lockport, was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance after her Chevy S10 truck was involved in an accident at 7:04 p.m. April 2. Police said she fled the scene and was later found at 1200 S. York. She was released on bond.

William Safian, 40, 897 Hillside, Elmhurst, was charged with reckless driving and driving without insurance after police pulled over his silver Nissan Altima for disobeying a stop sign, failure to signal and improper lane use at St. Charles and Spring roads at 11:40 p.m. April 3. He was released on bond.

Prowling

Gabriel Niechcial, 20, 977 S. Hillside, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with prowling and consumption of alcohol by a minor after police responded to a call for a burglary in progress on the 600 block of South Hawthorne at 12:20 a.m. April 4. A man was seen possibly pulling on a car door. Police said Niechcial denied the charges. He was released on bond.
