Two Men Face Felony Charges After Leading Elmhurst Police on a High-Speed Chase

Chase ends in crash; men arrested for Addison burglary, damage to state property.

Two Chicago men have been charged with residential burglary after robbing a home in Addison and crashing their vehicle into two Elmhurst police cars.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the Class 1 felony charges April 5.

Police say at about 9:30 a.m. April 4, Christian D. Johnson, 18, of 456 E. 91st St., broke into the home on Plamondon Drive in Addison while Antonio C. White, 25, of 3001 S. Michigan Ave., waited behind the wheel of a vehicle. Johnson reportedly took several items, including a flat-screen TV and a jewelry box. He then got into the car and the two drove off.

Elmhurst police tailed the car, but White allegedly drove in excess of 90 miles per hour, finally crashing into two unmarked police vehicles. Both men were taken into custody after a short chase.

“If these allegations are proven true, not only did Christian Johnson and Antonio White break into an innocent person’s home and help themselves to whatever they liked, they also put the general public at risk in their attempt to avoid getting caught,” Berlin said in a press release. “This type of brazen behavior will be met with the full force of the law.

"I would like to thank Detectives Edward Coughlin and Ken Lafin of the Elmhurst Police Department for fine police work on this case.”

Bond was set for Johnson at $150,000 and for White at $250,000. Both men are being held in at DuPage County Jail. A court appearance is scheduled for April 21 in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.

In additional to residential burglary, White also faces two counts of criminal damage to state property, a Class 4 felony, for smashing into the police cars while trying to flee. If found guilty, each man faces up to 15 years in prison.
