Two Armed Men Dressed as Police Officers Rob North Elmhurst Store on Friday

The suspects were captured in Cook County and taken to DuPage County Jail.

Two armed men dressed as police officers entered The Little Shopper, 697 N. York Road, and tried to pull off a bold robbery on Friday, May 11.

The men came into the store at around 9:40 a.m. Friday and identified themselves as police officers, saying they were checking on fraudulent cigarette stamps. They forced the store clerk into the back storage room, where they handcuffed him and made him sit down, police said. The offenders then opened the back door of the store and loaded 780 cartons of cigarettes worth about $39,000 into their Chevrolet Tahoe. The Elmhurst police report also listed two other victims, who were not named.

Elmhurst officers, assisted by other local agencies and K-9 units, located the two suspects in Cook County after a short chase.

Arrested were Claiborne Robertson, 42, 4221 W. Crystal Apt. E, Chicago, and Charles Watkins, 41, 4203 W. Iowa, Chicago. They were charged with armed robbery and taken to DuPage County Jail.
