Three Men in Jail Thanks to a Passerby Sensing Something Wasn't Right

Elmhurst police capture car thieves after pursuit to Franklin Park.

Three men are in custody after a witness reported suspicious activity in north Elmhurst Monday morning.

Elmhurst police were dispatched to the Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., on a report of two men breaking into a vehicle at 11:16 a.m. Nov. 21.

When police arrived, they found the black Chevy Impala that was described by the witness located in the parking lot, but the men were gone. The Impala had a smashed drivers side window, and the steering column had been peeled and the door lock pried. It was determined the Impala had been stolen from the parking lot of MedSpeed, 650 W. Grand Ave., and moved to Extended Stay so the suspects could remove any incriminating evidence from the vehicle, police said.

Based on a second vehicle description and witness information regarding the direction of travel of the offenders, police were able to track the suspects down in Franklin Park.

Freddy Rivas, 21, 2333 N. Mango, Chicago, and Arturo Galvez, 23, 8943 Barley Corn Court, Orland Park, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle. Oscar Delgado, 31, 4882 N. Marmora Apt. 1, Chicago, was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and possession of a stolen vehicle. They were all taken to DuPage County Jail, and their green Ford Explorer was towed.
