Thieves Make Off With Alcohol, Cigarettes, Video Games and Laundry Detergent
Arrests made in four theft incidents.
Theft Arrest
Mario Caruso, 19, 275 Palmer, Northlake, was arrested and charged with theft after he allegedly took $81 from a vehicle he was cleaning at Howard Buick-Pontiac, 364 W. Grand Ave. He was released on bond.
Jacob E. Markos, 18, 505 E. Washington Blvd., Lombard, was arrested and charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he reportedly placed a $12.52 bottle of wine inside his sweatshirt and walked out of Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 4:55 p.m. Sept. 7. A second offender and an unknown driver left the scene. Markos also was found with a cannabis smoking pipe. He was released on bond.
Philip J. Moroney, 26, 345 Oaklawn, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with theft of services after he refused to pay his cab fare at 654 W. North Ave. at 2:59 a.m. Sept. 8. He was released on bond.
Joseph G. Martin, 18, 100 Renaissance Blvd, Oakbrook Terrace, was arrested and charged with retail theft and consumption of alcohol by a minor after he allegedly stole nine packs of cigarettes worth $48.53 from Jewel, 944 S. York Road, at 11:28 p.m. Sept. 9.

Theft
Someone stole a white, Pines brand trailer from Krueger Steel and Wire, 900 Industrial, between 5 p.m. Sept. 1 and 5 a.m. Sept. 2.
Someone fraudulently used the debit card of an Elmhurst woman to charge $171.42 worth of merchandise at a store in Birmingham, England, Aug. 31.
The owner of Abbott Industries in Bensenville told police someone had used her corporate account to charge $1,718.23 in unauthorized charges at BP Amoco, 1003 N. York Road, Elmhurst, between Aug. 5 and 14.
Someone removed 19 video games from their cases at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect, between 9 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Sept. 2.
Someone took a white, 53-foot 2006 Stoughton truck trailer from the parking lot of a business at 888 N. Larch St. between 2 p.m. Aug. 27 and 11:45 a.m. Sept. 3.
A man in his 40s with a stocky build, brown hair, about 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 inches tall, was seen taking tools from a truck parked on the 300 block of North Highview Avenue at 3:21 p.m. Sept. 4. A neighbor saw a gray, older model Jeep with a loud muffler stop in the street next to a blue truck. The driver got out of the Jeep, put the tools in the Jeep and drove off. The neighbor ran after him to get a license plate, but was unable to obtain it. Loss is estimated at $400.
Someone stole four bottles of Tide laundry detergent worth $86.36 from Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 2:54 p.m. Sept. 6. When the man saw he was being followed, he dropped the bottles in the parking lot and fled in a car with a female passenger.
Someone took a $400 Trek men's mountain bike from the Metra Station, 128 W. First St., between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 6.
Someone stole a carton of Newport cigarettes off the shelf behind the counter at Citgo, 218 E. Butterfield Road, at 7:58 p.m. Sept. 7. The man was about 26 years old with curly brown hair. An employee ran after the offender but could not locate him or his vehicle. Loss is $51.68.
