Theft Arrest, and Catalytic Converters, Bikes and a Sewer Grate Taken

Theft Arrest

Jose Perez, 44, 2565 Springdale Circle, Naperville, was arrested and charged with retail theft, battery and resisting arrest after he allegedly took two bottles of Crown Royal worth $100 from Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 9:08 p.m. Aug. 9. Police said he pushed a store security officer who tried to stop him. He also reportedly continually resisted as officers attempted to place him under arrest.

Identity Theft

Someone hacked into the email account of a resident of the 600 block of West Lorraine and sent a message to his contacts stating the victim was in Madrid and that he had been robbed and needed $1,500 to pay for his airfare and hotel. The victim notified his contacts and told them to disregard the fraudulent email.

Someone attempted to create two Citibank Citi Premier Pass, Expedia Elite credit cards in the name of a resident on the 600 block of Mitchell on July 30. The victim also was notified that her credit was accessed through Paypal, Barclay Bank and American Eagle.

Theft

Someone stole a sewer grate from the area of Meister and Washington. The missing grate was noticed around 1 p.m. Aug. 2.

Someone stole a red and gray Edge 26-inch men's bicycle while it was parked unlocked outside of an apartment on the 400 block of South Argyle between 7:46 a.m. Aug. 1 and 7:46 a.m. Aug. 2. Loss is estimated at $150.

A catalytic converter was cut off of a white Ford 350 work van that was parked in the lot at Condor Communications, 846 N. York Road, between 5 p.m. Aug. 2 and 8 a.m. Aug. 3. A catalytic converter also was removed from a white Chevy 350 van belonging to the neighboring business, Viking Awards, during the same time period.

A green and silver Columbia Northway bicycle worth $250 was removed from a garage on the 100 block of Orchard between July 28 and 31. The side door of the garage was unlocked.

About $2 in change was taken from a vehicle scheduled to be serviced at the Ed Napelton car dealership, 745 W. Lake St., between 6 p.m. Aug. 4 and 10 a.m. Aug. 6. Estimated damage to the window was $200.

A man came into Back Alley Burger at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and said he wanted the restaurant to pay for his dry cleaning bill. He claimed he was in the restaurant about two weeks prior and an employee had spilled beer on his jacket. The manager asked employees if anyone remembered such an incident, and no one did. One of the employees pulled up an article on the Internet about similar incidents in La Grange. The suspect, a white man about 35 years old, 6 feet tall, 210 pounds with dark hair and wearing a blue and white striped dress shirt and khaki pants, left in a beige car.

The catalytic convertor was sawed off a vehicle parked along the west side of a building on the 500 block of West Lake Street between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and 6:40 a.m. Aug. 7.

A man put his briefcase on the passenger seat of his vehicle, which was parked on the 300 block of Route 83 at  7:48 a.m. Aug. 9. He walked to a hotel to meed a co-worker, and when he returned at 8:03 a.m., his front passenger window was smashed and his briefcase was missing. The case contained a Dell laptop, iPod Shuffle, keys, ID and a passport.

A headlight was stolen from a vehicle parked in a driveway on the 900 block of South Fern between 11 p.m. Aug. 7 and 11 a.m. Aug. 8.
