Suspect Shot at Oakbrook Center Mall in Critically Stable Condition

Police release more information about the three suspects.

The man who was shot Sunday after allegedly attempting to rob CD Peacock Jewelry Store at Oakbrook Center Mall is in "critically stable" condition at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, according to information released by Oak Brook police Monday. They did not release his name.

The 24-year-old man, who was shot Sunday by a security guard at the store, is under police guard at the hospital. Police said the man was armed with a 4-pound sledgehammer that he used to smash the glass display case housing high-value watches. The guard shot the man after a struggle ensued when the guard was apprehending him. The other two suspects escaped in a stolen vehicle.

Police released a photo of the getaway car, which was abandoned in an Oakbrook Terrace strip mall. Police also released a surveillance photo of the suspects, and are working to recover better-quality photos to help in identifying the two men who escaped.

Still at large is a heavy-set black man, 5 feet, 9-inches tall with a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was wearing a black T-shirt. The second suspect is a black man, about 5-feet, 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with a heavy beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt.
