Stop That Chair! Thieves Escape Elmhurst Kmart in Motorized Wheelchair

The pair sped away from the Kmart in a stolen motorized wheelchair.

A pair of brazen thieves not only stole a motorized wheelchair from the Elmhurst Kmart, but used it to make their daring escape.

The getaway chair—and the two crooks—remain missing.

The Elmhurst police said a Kmart loss prevention officer provided video footage of the Tuesday evening escapade. The video showed two men in their late teens or early 20s "leave the store on one of their motorized wheelchairs and ride it towards St. Charles Road," police said.

"The wheelchair is valued at $5,000 and has a 'property of Kmart' sign on the back," police said. "No serial number was available and the area was checked with negative results."
