Elmhurst police report burglary, theft, fraud.

Arrest for Stolen Vehicle

Martel T. Thomas, 18, 846 Georgia St., Gary, Ind., was arrested and charged under state charges with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, obstructing justice, no valid drivers license, no insurance, improper lane use and no valid registration after a traffic stop at North and Myrtle streets at 1:45 a.m. Feb. 6. Thomas reportedly provided officers with a false name and date of birth. A check of the vehicle’s VIN number revealed it was stolen out of Gary, Ind. Police also learned Thomas had a warrant out of Chicago for disorderly conduct. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Retail Theft Arrests

Cynthia Arbuthnot, 48, 1121 N. Broadway, Joliet, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she alleged took 16 DVDs valued at $206 from Dominick’s, 215 S. Route 83, at 5:44 p.m. Feb. 5. She was released on I-bond.

Sarah M. Stallard, 22, 313 S. West Ave. Apt. F, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 5:48 p.m. Feb. 7, at Kohl’s, 303 S. Route 83. She was seen taking clothing into the dressing room with a large packpack and exiting without the clothing in three different departments. She paid for some small items and then walked out of the store with her backpack full off items worth a total of $202.57. She was released on I-bond.

Burglary Arrest

James B. Holloman, 35, 1228 Long Valley Drive, Palatine, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to property and burglary after his footprints were found in the snow on a driveway on the 400 block of East Berteau at 3:38 a.m. Feb. 8. While looking for Holloman, police found a set of golf clubs on a driveway apron. Officers followed the footprints and located Holloman, who allegedly admitted to removing the golf clubs from an unlocked garage on the 20 block of North Michigan. Holloman also was found to have a warrant out of Villa Park for possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Theft

Two men reportedly walked into the Mobile gas station at 1000 N. York Road a 2:55 a.m. Jan. 30, grabbed two or three bags of Doritos and ran out without paying. They fled the scene in an older model white pickup truck southbound on York Road. Total loss is $3.

Someone removed 14 CDs from a vehicle parked on the 500 block of West Lake Street between 8:30 a.m. Jan. 24 and 5:20 p.m. Jan. 31. Value is estimated at $100.

While conducting a business check at Jewel, 153 E. Schiler St., at 4:15 p.m. Feb. 3, a customer told police that he had just seen two men carrying a hand basket full of groceries exit the store without paying. They reportedly got into a waiting vehicle and left at a high rate of speed. They are described as 23 to 27 years old, clean shaven with large builds and short black hair.

A resident of the 600 block of West Gladys street told police that at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 he allowed his neighbor to borrow his truck to go grocery shopping and as of Feb. 3, he had not returned it. Police tried to contact the offender. The victim wanted to report the truck as stolen, but at the time of the report it was considered a civil matter.

Someone took a wallet that was left on the counter of Citgo, 218 E. Butterfield Road, between 1:49 and 2:01 p.m. Jan. 30. The suspect was seen on surveillance camera and is described as a female, about 40 years old, 5-foot-9-inches tall, 225 pounds with long hair. The wallet contained three credit cards, a drivers license and an ID card.

Someone broke a window in the northwest stairwell  at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 159 W. North Ave., at 2:07 a.m. Feb. 4. An alarm went off at the church, and two sets of footprints were found leading to the window. The pastor of the church checked the building and nothing appeared to be missing.

Someone shattered the passenger side window of a black Dodge Caravan parked on the 600 block of West North Avenue between 10:20 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. Feb. 4. A GPS with adapter, CDs, a bag of clothing and toiletries, and a purse containing credit cards, drivers license, $70 and a check book were taken. Total loss is estimated at $1,890.

Someone removed a $65, black Empyre Hoody jacket from a locked locker at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 4. The victim said that on Feb. 1, he also had a brown Bilabong jacket worth $85 taken from his locker.

Someone took an outside garage door opener from a home on the 100 block of North Larch Street between 11 a.m. Feb. 4 and 11 p.m. Feb. 5. No entry or damage was made to the garage.

Someone took a wallet from a purse at Fruitful Yield, 214 N. York Road, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8. The wallet contained several credit cards that were fraudulently used at various retail and gas stations. 

Someone  took several items from CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., between 3:49 and 3:56 a.m. Feb. 8. The manager described the suspect as a man in his mid- to late-20s, about 6 feet tall wearing a black Sox baseball cap, black jacket, white sweatpants and white shoes. Police will examine surveillance tape.

Someone removed several tools from a garage on the 200 block of Columbia between 9 p.m. Feb. 7 and 8 a.m. Feb. 8 and placed them near the street. 

Fraud

A man tried to pass an altered check in the amount of $274 at 5:28 p.m. Feb. 8 at Jewel, 944 S. York Road. When store staff members confronted him, he left the store.
