So-called Joke Turns Out to be Not So Funny

Man faces multiple charges after being found with fireworks.

A Lombard man made his circumstances worse early Sunday morning after he reportedly mouthed-off to police while being transported to the station.

Luis Antonio Rojas-Gutierrez, 24, of 1306 Finley Road No. 312, was arrested after police received a complaint of a man with fireworks at Harrison and Parkside streets at 3:15 a.m. Police said he also was in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, and he had a failure-to-appear warrant.

While en route to the police station, he allegedly told police that he had a gun. Police stopped and searched him again, at which time Rojas-Gutierrez said he "was only joking." No gun was found.
