Smashed, Trashed and Splashed: Elmhurst Police Report Property Damage

Reports recorded during the month of August.

Someone broke the back window of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of South Kenilworth at 1:22 a.m. Aug. 2. Damage is $200.

Someone splashed a white paint-like substance on a car parked on the 300 block of Winthrop between 9 p.m. Aug. 4 and 8 a.m. Aug. 5.

Someone slashed the right front tire of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix parked on a lot on the 400 block of West Butterfield Road sometime before it was discovered at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 7. Damage is estimated at $50.


Someone smashed a ceramic dog ornament in the street after taking it from the front of a home on the 400 block of North Highview 9 a.m. Aug. 8 and 7 a.m. Aug. 9.

Someone broke the park sign at Golden Meadows Park into three pieces at Hampshire Street between Aug. 8 and 9. The sign is worth $800.

Someone broke the south window of Unique Travel Service, 170 N. York, between 12:30 and 1:36 a.m. Aug. 13. No access was gained to the building.

Someone egged a house on the 400 block of Arlington at 12:30 a.m. Aug. 13.

The drivers side rear window of a van parked at Extended Stay America, 550 W. Grand Ave., was smashed with a rock between 7 and 11:20 a.m. Aug. 15.

Profanities were spray-painted in black on two sheds, on the 100 block of Fairlane and on the 100 block of Elm Tree Lane. The damage was discovered at 6:39 p.m. Aug. 15.

Someone attempted to break a glass window of a home on the 600 block of North York Road at 2:03 a.m. Aug. 19. The home's burglar alarm went off after a rock thrown at the window. Small small chips were left in the glass, but the window was still intact.

Someone smeared dog feces on the front door of a home on the 100 block of East Cayuga between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24.

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
