Smashed and Splashed: Elmhurst Police Report Property Damage

Several windows reportedly shot by BB guns, and words spray-painted on walls.

The following property damage reports were made between Feb. 16 and March 12.

Mint green paint was splashed on the overhead garage door of a home on the 100 block of Glenview between 10:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and 8:45 a.m. Feb. 18.

Someone keyed the drivers side of a gray Subaru Outback that was parked at the Elmhurst YMCA, 211 W. First St., between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Feb. 16.  Damage is estimated at $2,000.

Someone removed a fire extinguisher from a secure case on the north wall of the fourth level of the parking deck at 175 W. First St. sometime before 7:08 p.m. Feb. 25 and discharged it into the stairwell and elevator. A total of six extinguishers had been tampered with.

Three windows on the south side of Kieft Brothers, 837 S. Riverside Drive, were shot out with a BB gun between 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24 and 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27. Damage is estimated at $45.

A bathroom window of a home on the 600 block of North Indiana was shot with a BB gun causing $150 in damage sometime in February. The report was made at 7:35 p.m. March 1.

Someone painted the words "VOW" and "LICK" in red spray paint on the west side of the stormwater overflow station at 836 S. Berkley between Feb. 24 and 10 a.m. March 1.

Someone smashed out the window of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of Washington Street sometime before 12:15 a.m. March 3.

Someone threw an object at the windshield of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home the 400 block of Alexander March 6, causing a 6-inch crack. Damage is estimated at $100.

Someone broke the first-floor window on a home under construction on the 600 block of Babcock between 4:30 p.m. March 6 and 7 a.m. March 7. The sub-contractor told police that a couple approached him and said they believed their son was responsible for the damage.

Someone spray-painted "SLEG" and "RIP SLYMIE" on the west wall of the pedestrian underpass at Myrtle and North Avenue between 11:15 a.m. March 8 and 3:06 p.m. March 12.
