Shoplifting at CVS and Kmart, Loud Party Broken Up and Warrant Arrest Reported

Arrests reported in the Elmhurst police blotter May 19-23.

Warrant Arrest

Daniel D. Briscoe, 22, 534 E. Red Oak Ave., Bensenville, was arrested after an incident on May 23. Police questioned Briscoe in the process of investigating a suspicious person at Van Auken and Victory. They released him, but discovered that he had given them a false name and date of birth. He was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on a DUI charge, and police arrested him at his home at 1:26 a.m. He also was charged with obstructing identification, for which he was released on I-bond. He was unable to post bond for his warrant and was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Police Cite 18 for Underage Drinking

Police responded to a loud party at 143 N. Maple St. at 12:43 a.m. May 22 and located 19 underage subjects in the back yard. One was not drinking and was released. The rest were issued citations for underage drinking and released on I-bonds.

Two teen-age boys were seen by York High School security at 3:46 a.m. May 22 at Elm Park Avenue and Grace Street. When police approached them, they fled on foot into a nearby yard. They told police they were having a sleepover and decided to take a walk and smoke cigars. They were released to their parents and referred to Peer Jury.

Retail Theft Arrest

David A. Motkyka, 61, 100 Golfview Drive, Northlake, was arrested and charged with retail theft after an incident at 9:27 a.m. May 19 at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. Employees recognized Motkyka as having stolen from CVS in the past, according to the police report. The assistant manager saw him put $59.14 worth of merchandise in his pants and leave the store without paying. He was taken to DuPage County Jail to await a bond hearing.

Two girls, ages 15 and 16, were arrested for stealing make-up and clothing from Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 8:38 p.m. May 20. They were released to their parents.

Genelle A. Monaghan, 19, 5788 80th Ave. #4, Kenosha, Wisc., was arrested and charged with retail theft after an incident at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 11:54 a.m. May 23. Monaghan reportedly went into the women’s fitting room with several pieces of women’s clothing, removed the tags and left without paying. Items are valued at $196.33. She was released on I-bond.
