Shaggy Makes a Getaway, and There's Never a Fire Extinguisher When You Need One

Damage to Property

Ten signs were spray painted along the north side of the Illinois Prairie Path between Berkley Avenue and Rex Boulevard between 1:30 p.m. March 18 and 9 a.m. March 21. The ground on the Prairie Path between Fairview and Sunnyside streets also was spray painted.

A resident of the 700 block of Adele told police that four men came to his door asking to speak with his step-son at 10:15 p.m. March 27. The resident told them his step-son was asleep and could not come to the door. When the four men demanded to see him, the resident told them to leave or he would call the police. The suspects left in a black Chevy Tahoe or Ford Explorer. Moments later, the man went outside and noticed his plastic mailbox was broken into pieces. The men are described as between 18 and 19 years old. One of them was described as looking like Shaggy from the Scooby Doo movies.

Someone shattered the glass door on the west side of PGI Marketing, 747 Church St., between 3:11 and 7:40 a.m. March 28. Nothing was taken.

Someone kicked out the sign at Marjorie Davis Park, Grantley and Myrtle streets, between 4 p.m. March 25 and 8 a.m. March 28. Damage is estimated at $250.

Someone snapped off the upper right corner to a park sign at Golden Meadows Park, Geneva and First streets, between 3 p.m. March 24 and 9:41 a.m. March 28. Damage is estimated at $250.

Someone broke the glass doors and removed two fire extinguishers from the fourth floor of the parking garage at 118 E. Schiller St., between 7:30 a.m. March 25 and 8 a.m. March 28.

Someone broke a containment box and took a fire extinguisher from the parking deck at 175 W. First St., between noon March 25 and 2:37 p.m. March 28.

Someone broke a cabinet door and took a fire extinguisher from the offices at 120 W. Adelaide between 7:30 a.m. March 25 and 8 a.m. March 28.

Fire Investigation

Police responded to Allied Waste, 299 W. First St., for a report of a dumpster on fire at 9:43 p.m. March 26. The complainant told police he saw the fire in the dumpster, which is just to the west of his apartment building, but he did not see anyone around.

Damage to Vehicles

Between 7 p.m. March 17 and 10 a.m. March 18, someone damaged a company van parked at Edible Arrangements, 206 N. York Road. A hole that appeared to have been caused by a BB was found in the front windshield, and the drivers side font tire was cut in two places. Damage is estimated at $300.

Someone damaged the rear passenger tail light on a Cadillac DTS that was parked on the 400 block of West Commonwealth between noon March 14 and 9:15 p.m. March 17. Damage is estimated at $200.

Someone slashed the drivers side front tire of a vehicle parked on the 400 block of North Walnut between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. March 20. Damage is estimated at $118.

Someone broke the rear passenger vent window out of a Cadillac parked at Elite Car Outlet, 178 N. Route 83, between noon and 3:29 p.m. March 27. The drivers side front headlight was missing.

Someone scratched the front windshield of a vehicle while it was parked at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., between 5:45 and 7 p.m. March 28.
