Sex Offender Arrested at Timothy Christian School Friday

Sex offender tried to engage elementary students in "a very inappropriate conversation," principal said.

A man who was identified as a known sex offender was arrested at Timothy Christian Schools, 188 W. Butterfield Road, after he was seen talking with grade school students Friday morning. He was taken into custody by Elmhurst police, and charges are pending.

Timothy Christian Grade School Principal Tim Hoeksema sent a letter to parents Friday afternoon.

"We are grateful that a potentially dangerous situation was dealt with quickly and professionally," Hoeksema said.

He said "a suspicious man" was spotted roaming along the east side of the schools.

"The man approached a few grade school students during recess and engaged them in a very inappropriate conversation," Hoeksema said. "He made no attempt to do anything other than talk with them."

He said four supervisors were on duty. A fence separates the school property from where the man was, he said.

"The Elmhurst Police acted swiftly and boldly, and they are to be commended for their action today," Hoeksema wrote. "Additionally, our staff and Timothy’s watchful neighbors also deserve a special acknowledgment. Keeping our children safe is a community effort.

"We will continue to work diligently to provide a safe and secure campus. The Elmhurst police remind parents that such incidents should be reported immediately, and that if their son or daughter has a cell phone with them in such circumstances, they should not hesitate to call 911 immediately."

This guy is the "poster child" for sex offenders. Not the brightest bulbs in the boxes. Soon his girlfriend, sister or mother will declare he was innocently on the property, the registry should be abolished, His rights are violated, and his initial conviction was for Peeing on a bush..and round and round we go..

I agree with you but I don't know if we as just citizen's can do anything to stop that practice. IRead More wish that each cyclist had to have a license, and that it was enforced by laws and police, on the bike so that people could report occurrences and have the person receive a ticket just like a person driving an auto. That would make sense.

A couple of years ago, Villa Park installed "State Law- must stop for pedestrians" signsRead More on the roadways where the Great Western and Prairie Paths cross. I saw a big increase in path users barreling across the streets with no regard for the stop signs on the path.

I was really hoping that the Elmhurst Police would sound in on this info-I do understand kids willRead More be kids, but if one of them is hurt, that adult driver will need to live with that for the rest of their life-so let's come up with a solution for both bicyclist and cars to be in harmony. I really think that a step up in enforcement in the bicycle laws would help-just like the drunk driving laws-believe me the bicycle laws are just as important.
