Semi Driver From Elmhurst Seriously Injured in Crash in Indiana

Emergency personnel had to extricate the 31-year-old.

A Elmhurst man was seriously injured this morning when he lost control of his semi on a snow and ice covered interstate in Indiana, according to a press release from the Indiana State Police. 

Sean Gaw, 31, of Elmhurst, was southbound on Interstate 65 in the right lane at about 8:20 a.m. Thursday when he lost control on the bridge that goes over State Road 2 (the Lowell exit), according to a preliminary investigation by Sergeant Lee Wright. Gaw was driving a 2011 Ford semi pulling an empty, flatbed trailer.

The area was receiving snow with a strong cross wind that made the roadways icy and slick, according to Indiana State Police. The semi began to jack-knife went off the roadway to the west, down a steep embankment backwards where the tractor hit a tree on the driver’s side, according to the release. 

Gaw was pinned inside the semi and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. He was transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with serious injuries. 

The semi was owned by Forming America LTD out of West Chicago, Illinois. 

Gaw's family has been notified, according to police.
