Scam Artists Harass Elmhurst Residents and Vandals Leave Their Mark

Caller tells woman he is going to send someone to her house and "kill her family."

Harassment

A woman on the 200 block of North Oaklawn told police she has been receiving harassing phone calls since she applied online for a used car loan.  In the process of applying for the loan, she was redirected to numerous Web sites where she submitted personal information. From May 23 through June 6, she received numerous phone calls from a man demanding payment of $800. The company has had several complaints alleging scam activity.

A resident on the 600 block of Fairview told police June 9 that she received a call from someone who said he was with a gaming commission. He told her she had won a free car and cash. When the victim refused to talk to him, he became irate and said he was going to have someone come to her house and kill her family. Police told her this is a common tactic used by scam artists.
