UPDATE: Road Closure and Garbage Pickup Information from City of Elmhurst

Route 83 Should Be Open After 6 p.m.

UPDATED AT 5 P.M. THURSDAY:

The following roads remain closed:

  • North Avenue at I-290
  • Spring Road from Harrison to Butterfield
  • Ramp: York St. to westbound Roosevelt Road
  • Robert Palmer Drive Underpass

Refuse and Recycling Pick-Up will be one day late this week. If your regular day was Thursday, pickup will be Friday, April 19. Customers with Friday pickup will have their trashed collected on Saturday, April 20.

Earlier:

The City of Elmhurst is advising residents not to walk, drive or swim in standing water. Due to contaminants in the water and manhole covers that have been opened by over-pressurization of the system it is unsafe, according to a press release.

The following roads remain closed:

  • North Avenue at Interstate 290
  • Spring Road from Harrison to Butterfield
  • Ramp: York Street to westbound Roosevelt Road
  • York between Lake and Crestview
  • Robert Palmer Drive (Underpass)

The storm is not over yet. Sand and bags are available at the following locations:

  • Public Works Garage, 985 S. Riverside Drive
  • The Chicago Stone Quarry, 400 W. First St.
  • City Hall, 209 N. York St.
  • East parking lot of Berens Park, off of Walnut Street

Residents will need to bring a shovel and fill their own bags.

It is anticipated that Route 83 will be open to traffic after 6 p.m.
