UPDATED: Registered Sex Offender Tries to Lure York High School Girl Into His Car

Girl called police and was able identify him.

A registered sex offender was arrested after trying to give a York High School girl a ride.

Steven P. Moore, 43, 633 Stewart Ave., North Aurora, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after an incident at 8 a.m. April 30 on the 200 block of Winthrop.

A York High School student told police Moore pulled alongside of her while she was walking on the 200 block of Winthrop. He reportedly told her she was cute and offered her a ride to school. She refused and Moore drove away.

According to a police report, he later was seen driving through the York High School parking lot "until he was apprehended." The victim called police and was able to identify Moore as the man who offered her a ride.

Moore is listed as a registered sex offender on the State of Illinois Web site. The conviction that resulted in the requirement that he register as a sex offender was for public indecency/exposure. According to information provided by the state, his victim was 18 years old at the time and Moore was 35.

Even though Moore was driving in the parking lot at York High School, he is not facing additional charges at this time, Elmhurst Police Det. Cmdr. Robert Nicholas said.

"Right now, he's not a child sex offender, he's a sex offender, which takes some of the restrictions away," Nicholas said. "The reason for the disorderly conduct charge is that's all we were able to charge him with based on his actions."

Elmhurst police have contacted the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, however.

"It's still an ongoing investigation," Nicholas said. "There are some other things we're tracking down right now to see if there are other charges. At this time, (disorderly conduct) is the only thing we could charge him with, but we're still looking into some things."
