Cars Broken Into on Euclid, Meds Stolen from Home on Comstock

Also, man with green sticker on his cheek attempts to steal Prilosec, another man makes off with a 42-inch TV. Bikes, iPhones, tools—you name it, they'll steal it. Here are the theft reports for May, so far.

If It's Not Locked Down ...

A GPS worth $200 and a leather wallet containing a drivers license, credit cards and $200 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 700 block of South Euclid between 11 p.m. May 8 and 5 a.m. May 9. Someone also entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on the 800 block of South Euclid during the same time period. Nothing appeared to be missing, but the glove box was rifled through and the door was ajar. A wallet that had been stolen from another vehicle was found in the street. While investigating these burglaries, police discovered vehicles on the 900 and 700 blocks of South Euclid also were tampered with. One victim told police someone attempted to enter his vehicle by popping out the top portion of the drivers window, and the other told police he found his door open. Nothing was missing from either of those vehicles.

Someone stole prescription medication from a home on the 600 block of Comstock between 4:30 and 5:20 p.m. May 11. When the homeowners returned home, they noticed items on the floor in the living room and the bedroom had been disturbed.

A bicycle was stolen from the front lawn of a home by a teenager wearing a white T-shirt and black sweat pants at 5:55 p.m. May 8. The victim's father followed the suspect onto the Prairie Path, but lost sight of him around Interstate 294 and Electric Avenue in Berkeley.

An iPhone 4S was taken from an unlocked locker at Churchville Middle School, 155 Victory Parkway, between 4 and 5 p.m. May 9.

A man in his 30s wearing a blue knit skullcap, red sweater, blue jeans and white shoes with a green sticker on his left cheek unsuccessfully attempted to steal five packages of Prilosec from Jewel-Osco, 153 Schiller, at 2:59 p.m. May 12.

A man with light, short hair walked out of Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, with an RCA 42-inch television worth $500 at around 3:30 p.m. May 11. Employees heard the anti-theft alarms go off, but by the time they alerted security, he was gone.

Power tools were taken from a work van parked at 880 N. Addison between 3:30 p.m. May 10 and 11 a.m. May 13. The lock was punched on the side cargo door. Damage is estimated at $600.

Two Trek mountain bikes were taken from a garage on the 200 block of Geneva between noon April 29 and 7:30 p.m. May 13. Loss is estimated at $500.

A locked, specialized black and gray cross-trail bike was taken from the 500 block of South York between 2 p.m. May 9 and 9:23 p.m. May 14.

Vehicle parts and tools were removed from a garage and several sheds on the 500 block of North West Avenue between 12:45 and 5:30 a.m. May 15. Two witnesses saw a black or navy Buick driving up and down the street with two men inside. One of the men got out of the vehicle and walked through a yard in the direction of the victim's property.

Someone took a 12-pack of Modelo beer worth $14 from 7 Eleven, 525 S. Spring Road at 1 a.m. May 17.

Someone checked out numerous DVDs and X-Box games from Elmhurst Public Library and never returned them. Attempts to contact the suspect have failed and his listed address is vacant. Police were called to investigate on May 21.

An employee of the Delta Sonic Car Wash, 600 W. North Ave., told police that on about eight occasions, a man driving a 2012 black, four-door Chevrolet Impala has filled up his tank and left without paying. The report was made at 10:27 a.m. May 22. Police are investigating.

Theft Arrests

Camilo Rosas-Flores, 18, 513 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, was arrested and charged with retail theft after he allegedly took an iPhone case from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, at 4:42 p.m. May 10. He was released on bond.

Julio Torres, 48, 109 N. May St. Apt. B, Addison, was arrested for theft at 9:57 a.m. May 20. The husband of a woman whose iPhone 4 was stolen on the 600 block of North Avenue tracked the phone on his computer as it was traveling northbound on Route 83. The alleged offender was located in Salt Creek Woods and taken into custody. He was released on bond.

Prowling

John Cellar, 18, 356 W. Adams St., was arrested and charged with prowling, being in the park after hours, resisting/obstructing an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and consumption of alcohol by a minor after police said he was seen attempting to take an item from Art in the Park at Wilder Park, 190 S. Prospect, at 2 a.m. May 4. He was released on bond.

Identity Theft

Someone used the social security number of an Elmhurst resident to file taxes and receive a $16,000 refund. The incident was reported to police on May 8.

Someone used the credit card of an Elmhurst woman to purchase a membership to a pornographic website that cost $99. The money was refunded, but a collection agency is demanding money, as well. The purchase was made on March 19.
