Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia Among Elmhurst Police Incidents

Possession of Cannabis

Sheila Concepcion, 22, 1735 N. Karlov, Chicago, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after a vehicle she was a passenger in was pulled over for improper lane use at Lake Street and I-290 at 1:23 a.m. May 27. Police said she was in possession of 6.4 grams of cannabis, a cannabis grinder and smoking pipe. She was released on I-bond.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jonathan Garcia, 24, 373 N. Edgewood, Wood Dale, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without insurance after police pulled him over for disobeying a flashing red light at North and Emroy at 11:59 p.m. May 26. Police said he was in possession of a metal cannabis smoking pipe and a gas mask outfitted for inhaling cannabis. He was released on I-bond.

Warrant Arrests

Four men were charged with crimes after police pulled over their vehicle at North and Emroy at 2:19 a.m. May 25. Malcolm McCaster, 21, 1741 N. Latrobe, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license and not wearing a seat belt. A passenger in the vehicle, Dwayne Hooker, 26, 1374 Wyndam Apt. 102, Palatine, gave a false name to police and was found to have two warrants. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Two other passengers were cited for not wearing seat belts.

Julio C. Ferrer-Laza, 38, 650 W. Forest Ave. Apt. 313, West Chicago, was arrested on a warrant after police pulled over his white Chrysler 300C for tinted windows and expired temporary tags at York and Hahn at 5:47 a.m. May 25. He was wanted out of Glendale Heights on a charge of deceptive practice. He was released to Glendale Heights police.

Attempted Burglary

A resident on the 200 block of East Crescent noticed pry marks on his door at around noon May 28. It appeared someone had attempted to break into the house, police said. The damage occurred sometime since May 23.

Loud Party

Police responded to a report of a loud party on the 500 block of South York at 1:06 a.m. May 18. When the police tried to make contact with the people inside the house, they turned off the lights and refused to open the door. Police spoke with the landlord, who said they were Elmhurst College students and their lease will be up soon.

Liquor/Tobacco Violations

Elmhurst police reported multiple instances of merchants violating liquor and tobacco laws by selling to minors on May 29. Police redacted the names and addresses of the stores that were in violation, however. Charged with selling alcohol to a minor were Marilyn E. Bregon, 74, 1528 N. 24th St., Melrose Park; Steve Hawkins, 42, 4532 Clayton, Hillside; Tommy L. Nelson, 35, 910 Pine, Chicago; and Timothy A. Dunkle, 23, 5726 S. Menard, Chicago. Charged with selling tobacco to a minor were Joyce L. Zetscher, 20, 815 N. 20th St., Melrose Park; Mary L. Stasch, 58, 740 Washington St., Elmhurst; Ana E. Salazar, 19, 250 S. Circle Drive, Addison; and Marlene H. Stokes, 69, 120 Walnut, Elmhurst. All were released at the scene.
