Police Report Rash of Car Burglaries on North Avenue Wednesday Night

A lot of "smash and grab" theft going on in Elmhurst Wednesday.

Elmhurst police have reported five cars were broken into between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, and all on the 600 block of West North Avenue.

Following are details in each theft:

  • Driver-side window was smashed, and a purse containing numerous credit cards, cash and a Blackberry phone were taken. Police say a witness saw a white GMC or Blazer driven by two men.
  • Rear driver-side window smashed, and a Dell laptop computer and bag, and a work ID were stolen.
  • Window smashed, and a purse containing a drivers license, credit and debit cards, gift cards and two iPhone chargers were stolen.
  • Driver-side window smashed, and a purse containing an Indiana drivers license, Social Security card, debit card and numerous gift cards were stolen.
  • Driver-side window smashed, and a purse containing cash, debit cards, an Illinois drivers license and Illinois ID card were stolen. This victim also reported seeing a white GMC in the northeast corner of the parking lot with two people in the vehicle.
