Police Report Incidents of Theft

Lawn mower, snow blower and a ring from a dead man's finger among items reported stolen.

Theft Arrests

Amber A. Kmieziak, 20, 2025 Susanna Way, Cresthill, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 1:36 p.m. March 24. Police were called to Kohl’s, 303 S. Route 83, and while they were in route, Kmieziak fled the scene. She was apprehended and released on bond.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked at Walgreens, 160 N. Palmer Drive, at 3:30 p.m. March 11 and removed a $200 i-Phone. Report was made at 11:20 a.m. March 19.

Someone removed an Elmhurst Terrace parking permit from a vehicle parked at 100 Fellows Court between 7:20 p.m. March 16 an 3:34 a.m. March 18. The vehicle was towed for not having a parking permit.

Someone removed a wallet from a purse while the victim shopped at Kohl’s, 303 S. Route 83, between 3:44 and 4:09 p.m. March 21. The wallet contained a drivers license, credit cards, gift cards and $200.

A resident of the 700 block of Fairfield reported that he answered an ad for a personal assistant job on Craigslist. The suspect replied that he would hire the victim and sent him a check for $2,575. The victim was to keep $300 of that check and send the remainder to an address. The victim did this and was later notified by the bank that the check was fraudulent. The incident occurred between March 17 and 22.

Someone stole a Samsung touch screen phone from a woman who was being treated at the emergency room at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, 200 N. Berteau Ave., between 4 and 7 p.m. March 17. She discovered calls had been made to Mexico and Puerto Rico at a cost of $170. The phone is valued at $200.

Someone removed a snow blower from an unlocked garage on the 800 block of Cambridge between 5 p.m. March 23 and 8 a.m. March 24.

Someone stole a self-propelled lawn mower from a garage on the 800 block of South Cambridge Avenue between midnight March 23 and 3 a.m. March 24. The suspect may have entered through an unlocked service door.

Someone took the wedding band of a deceased man at 1:50 p.m. Nov. 16. The man’s wife filed the report at 5:09 p.m. March 25. The ring was on the man’s finger when he died from injuries sustained from a fall at his home. It is unknown where the theft occurred but it was likely during a trip to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, 200 N. Berteau, or at the hospital, police said. The gold ring was worth $100.

Identity Theft

A resident of the 500 block of North Walnut Street reported that on March 15 someone rented a U-haul truck in his name and never returned it. After learning about the truck, the victim began getting credit cards in the mail, which he did not request. He called the credit card companies and found out that someone had used his name, date of birth, Social Security number and address.

A resident of the 200 block of East Crescent reported March 18 that someone used his Visa account to charge $1,069.95 to Verizon Wireless.

A resident of the 900 block of Swain Avenue reported she was notified by her bank that unauthorized charges were made with a debit card that was obtained fraudulently. A T-Mobile phone line was added to an existing account, and charges were made for $46.30 in gas and $480.95 at Dominick’s. The victim suspects her granddaughter.
