Keith Cobler, 45, of 262 W. Butterfield, had some people concerned when he allegedly threw what looked like a hand grenade at them at 12:45 a.m. Oct. 26. Police said Cobler threw a plastic toy hand grenade at the victims after announcing, "Ladies and gentlemen, for tonight's entertainment, think fast!" Police said Cobler was found in costume and intoxicated. Police said he also had a black cap gun revolver. He was released on bond.
Leonard Bloom, 20, 512 Princeton, Deerfield, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery after an incident at Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect Ave., at 11:09 p.m. Oct. 25. Police said a residence life coordinator at the school asked Bloom to step out of a party so he could speak to him regarding his behavior at the party. Police said Bloom began punching the victim. He also was charged with resisting arrest, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In other alcohol-related news, Elmhurst police issued fair warning last week that they will be cracking down on impaired driving. Last weekend they made good on that promise.
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign is under way through Saturday, Nov. 2, to coincide with Halloween festivities. The following six arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol were reported over the weekend:
Rebecca McAuley, 24, 608 W. Armitage, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over her blue Chevrolet Cobalt for improper lane use and no rear registration plate light at York and Second at 2:05 a.m. Oct. 26. She was released on bond.
Jeffrey Hermes, 30, 790 N. Van Auken, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his silver Toyota for speeding, improper lane use and failure to signal on the 500 block of West Lake Street at 12:46 a.m. Oct. 27. He was relesaed on bond.
Yolanda Sutton, 41, 4128 W. Wilcox, Chicago, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and driving with an unsafe tire after police pulled over her silver Volkswagon Beetle for driving on a flat tire at Lake and Church at 12:50 a.m. Oct. 27. Police said Sutton damaged the front driver-side rim. She was released on bond.
Gerald Rowan, 44, 1135 Linden, Bellwood, was arrested and charged with DUI after he pulled over his white Cadillac DTS at Lake and Walnut at 1:03 a.m. Oct. 27, while police were arresting another driver in the area. He was released on bond.
Ilija Gjorgiev, 24, 264 E. Bailey, Naperville, was arrested and charged with DUI after police received a call for a drunken driver at Route 83 and Lake Street at 2:10 a.m. Oct. 27. The witness told police dispatchers that Gjorgiev's gray Buick Rendevous was speeding and weaving in its own lane. Gjorgiev was released on bond.
Daniel L. Stuckey, 30, 1006 Lyford, Wheaton, was arrested and charged with DUI after police stopped for a motorist assist at Route 83 and Second Street at 5:45 a.m. Oct. 27. Police said Stuckey was in a green Lexus, which was released to a valid driver at the scene. Stuckey was released on bond.
