Police Cruiser Involved in Monday Accident

Few details available, but the vehicle hit GMS Realty building, according to police report.

Elmhurst Patch has received a number of inquiries from witnesses who saw a police car that had been damaged in an accident on Monday, Aug. 6.

According to a report released Tuesday by Elmhurst police, the police car hit the brick wall of GMS Realty, 627 N. York Road, at 8:56 a.m. Monday.

The black Ford Crown Victoria was towed from the scene to the Elmhurst Public Works building. In a photo submitted to Elmhurst Patch from Elmhurst resident John Eleniewski, it appears a light pole or similar structure also was knocked down, but it is not clear whether that was caused by the police car.

Calls to the Elmhurst Police Department Tuesday for more information were not immediately returned.

Supposedly the squad car came off the ramp to head on north bound york street and lost control of the car and hit a pole and the building. That is second hand info as told to me by a person who was shortly behind the incident.

Elmhurst police been issuing citations for even the most minor of traffic violations. I suspect this practice will increase to pay for the damage to their cruiser. One can only hope that citations are issued in this case. It will be interesting to see the follow up on this.

the other "word on the street" is that this squad car was sitting in the old AT&T parking lot on York & Crestview, pulled out to pull over a vehicle and the squad car got cut off and the officer lost control of the vehicle...this too is 2nd hand info told to me by someone that was near the scene...

The other word on the street is that the officer was texting while driving and lost control of OUR vehicle. Citations need to be written and fines paid, including the repair of our car.
