Police Blotter: Thefts and a Burglary

Reports from the Elmhurst Police Department.

Theft

Police investigated a report by a woman who said her credit card, cell phone, cash and drivers license were taken from her while attending a party in the 1000 block of South Mitchell on July 29. The woman said unauthorized charges were made to her card and derogatory comments had been posted on her Facebook page. Police investigated two potential suspects.

Maria Garcia, 57, of the 900 block of Hillside, was charged with retail theft after she was stopped by store security at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, without paying for $52 in cosmetics. Garcia was released on an I-Bond.

Identity Theft

A woman reported a suspicious person listed on her savings account at an Elmhurst bank on June 29. The woman contacted the bank, which said the suspect used the social security number of the woman’s deceased mother.

Burglary

Police were called to Bryan Junior High on July 30 after a maintenance worker found that someone had broken a lock on a work van and took a drill and saw valued at $525. The lock appeared to have been cut, police said.
