Police Blotter: Property Damage Reports for October Include Bullet Hole, Gang Graffiti

Someone damaged the egress basement window of a home on the 100 block of Mayo Court between 9 a.m. Sept. 28 and 9:42 a.m. Oct. 4. The window had been smashed, apparently from the outside, and glass was found all over the interior floor. The victim said she had previous vandalism incidents involving ketchup, banana peels and a running garden hose.

Gang graffiti was found on window panes at King Transmission, 180 W. Grand Avenue. The manager told police the defacement must have occurred between 1 p.m. Oct. 6 and 6 a.m. Oct. 8. Police identified the markings as belonging to the Orchestra Albany street gang.

Someone kicked in three metal vents on the southeast side of Jefferson Elementary School, 360 E. Crescent, between 3 p.m. Oct. 5 and 7 a.m. Oct. 9. The suspect also poked holes in two screens on the east side of the school. Police found a 750 ml bottle of Smirnoff vodka at the scene.

Someone broke the front passenger window on a vehicle that was parked on the 100 block of South West Ave. at 9:42 p.m. Oct. 11. Nothing appeared missing at the time.

A service manager at Comcast, 688 Industrial Drive, said a 15-foot section of fence was hanging off the metal frame and a 2-foot-by-2-foot hole was cut in the bottom of the fence in the company parking lot across from the business. The damage occurred between 2 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

A woman reported finding a bullet hole in the rear drivers side door of her vehicle, which had been parked in Melrose Park where she works as a nanny. She remembered hearing "fireworks" while at work, but since believes it may have been a gun shot. The bullet was lodged between the interior panel and the exterior metal door. The report was made at 12:05 a.m. Oct. 13. Police told her to follow up with Melrose Park police.

Gang graffiti was found spray-painted on the northwest corner of a building at 783 N. York, on a lighting control box at 803 N. York, on the side of a building at 653 N. York  on Oct. 16.

The words "BUNS" and "GLENN" were written in the freshly poured concrete, along with a drawing of a penis, at 485 Alma. The damage was reported to police at 11:40 a.m. Oct. 18.

Someone cut the wire and pulled the nighttime sensor off the spotlight at the main entrance to The Atrium Apartments, 1 Atrium Way. The damage, estimated at $200, was discovered at 8:02 a.m. Oct. 29.

Someone dripped or spilled a black, thick material on a black Lexus ES350 while it was parked on the 900 block of Weigel between 2 p.m. Oct. 25 and 1:08 p.m. Oct. 29. Damae is estimated at $1,000.

Someone egged a vehicle parked on the 700 block of South Bryan around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 30. This is the second time in the month the car has been egged. The victim suspected her ex-boyfriend, but his military supervisor confirmed he is at Fort Bragg, NC, and is not a suspect.

The letters CTIEK were etched into the glass display screen of parking pay station No. 7 at the Metra platform, York and First streets, between 7:36 a.m. Oct. 29 and 7:19 a.m. Oct. 31. Damage is estimated at $250.

Someone threw a rock through a kitchen window of a home on the 600 block of Alexander at 4:20 p.m. Oct. 31. Damage is estimated at $50.
