Police Blotter: Jewelry, Bike and Cigarettes Among Items Reported Stolen

TUESDAY, JUNE 12

Suspicious Circumstances

The owner of Goes Incentives and Awards, 512 W. Van Buren, told police he received a check, payable to him, for $2,250 from Multimax Inc. out of Largo Maryland. The complainant told police on June 12 that he has never done any business with the company and does not know why they are sending him a check. The officer contacted the phone number for the company and got a woman's voicemail. Police left a message and took the check for evidence.

$2,500 Worth of Cast Iron Stolen

Someone stole 12, 100-pound cast iron plates worth $2,500 from a Chase HI Magnum 180 tractor that was parked in front of the ComEd substation at 790 N. Church Road between 8:15 p.m. June 7 and 7:15 a.m. June 12. The tractor belongs to Dahm Enterprise Inc. of Wonder Lake, which had been hired by ComEd to mow grass around their properties. The cast iron plates are used to counter balance the weight in the back of the tractor.

MONDAY, JUNE 11

Cigarettes Stolen

An unknown man took six packs of Newport cigarettes from behind the counter of the Shell station, 103 W. Third St., at 1:43 a.m. June 11, and fled northbound.

Man Unknowingly Purchases Stolen Piano

An Elmhurst man purchased a piano from someone in Chicago who had listed it on Craigslist. Police in Champaign contacted Elmhurst police to find out if the piano he had purchased was a piano that had been reported stolen. Police determined it was the stolen piano after verifying the serial number. The Elmhurst man in possession of the piano had receipts to prove he purchased it.

SUNDAY, JUNE 10

Bike Taken from Driveway

Someone stole an unlocked black Huffy 10-speed bicycle from the driveway of a home on the 800 block of South Prospect Avenue between 3 p.m. June 9 and 9 a.m. June 10.

FRIDAY, JUNE 8

Jewerly Stolen

A resident of the 300 block of East Van Buren told police that a "friend from DuPage County Jail" slept over in the basement and now the victim is missing $5,000 worth of jewelry. The victim's daughter took the suspect to a pawn shop to pawn the jewelry between 2 and 6:30 p.m. June 8, police said. Geneva police were following up at the pawn shop to try to locate the missing items.

A resident of the 400 block of North Addison told police that numerous items of custom jewelry were missing from her home. She suspects her mother's cargivers of taking the jewelry between December 2010 and August 2011. Police contacted the suspects, who said they did not take the jewelry.

A resident of the 200 block of Winthrop told police that his $10,000 Cartier Roadster watch is either missing or was stolen by one of the three suspects his daughter had over between 7 p.m. June 7 and 7 a.m. June 8. An investigation is pending.

Credit Card Fraud

A resident of the 100 block of South Prospect received an email alert from Wells Fargo Bank regarding fraudulent activity on his debit account. He also discovered fraudulent activity on his Bank of America debit account. Police said his cards had been stolen. The fraudulent activity was recorded between May 16 and 25.

A resident of the 500 block of South Arlington told police that Capital One informed him someone tried to change the delivery address on his account. Two transactions were attempted, for $625 and $115, on June 6.
