Police Blotter: Drinking, Drugs and a Long Bike Ride

The following arrest information was supplied by the Elmhurst Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Underage Drinking
Police stopped a vehicle for speeding just before 1 a.m. on July 31 when the officer noticed a bottle of vodka in the back seat and the smell of alcohol inside the car. The officer determined the driver, Robert A. Binder, 20, of Glenview, had not consumed any alcohol, but he was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. Two passengers, 20-year-old Chad Laurie of Glenview, and 20-year-old Jordan Reeder of Northbrook, were each charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor. All three were released on I-Bonds.

Curfew Violation
A 16-year-old boy was cited for a curfew violation around 3 a.m. on July 31 after an officer found him riding his bike near Roosevelt and Kirk. The boy told police he was riding from Chicago to Lombard after an argument with a family member. He was taken into custody and later released to another family member.

Warrant
Hossam Khadra, 45, of Oak Brook, was arrested on an outstanding theft warrant from Norridge after a traffic stop near Route 38 and Monterrey around 3:25 a.m. on July 29. During the stop for a seat belt violation, police learned of the warrant. Khadra was released after posting cash bond on the warrant and the traffic violation.

Drugs
Roberto Gutierrez, 33, of Northlake, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver after a drug investigation near Armitage and Willow around 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 2. Police said they found Gutierrez with three grams of cocaine and one suspected Vicodin pill. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.

Ashley M. Thinnes, 21, of Oak Park, was charged with failure to wear a seat belt, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop just before 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 2 near North Avenue and Myrtle. The vehicle's driver, Jonathan Schapiro, 17, of River Forest, was cited for no seat belt.
