Pitbull Charges Poodle on Gladys Avenue; Owner Cited

Police also report incidents of theft and property damage.

Dog at Large

A woman who lives on the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue in Elmhurst was cited for having a dog at large at 10:52 p.m. May 5. A man told police he was walking his leashed, 25-pound poodle when the woman's 75-pound pitbull charged at them. The man said this was the third time he has called the police about his neighbor's dog being on the loose.

Theft

Someone forced a lock off of a storage locker at an apartment complex on Elm Creek Lane between 4 p.m. May 3 and 7 a.m. May 7 and removed personal property worth $250.

A Carhart 3.7 horsepower power washer worth $300 was stolen from a driveway on the 700 block of South Hawthorne between 1:30 and 1:40 p.m. May 8. The victim left it on the driveway while he went into his home for 10 minutes, and when he came back out, it was gone.

Property Damage

Graffiti was discovered on the south side of the building at 135 N. Addison Street at 10:55 a.m. May 4.

Someone wrote an obscenity and the number 7 in marker on the east side windows of a first-floor apartment at 220 E. Park St. between 6 a.m. and noon May 5.

An officer on patrol at 10 a.m. May 9 found a swastika painted in light blue on the west wall of Wallgreen's, 160 N. Palmer Drive, as well as unknown writing on the ComEd generator, "Alexa y Carlos" in black pen on the interior side of the double gates accessing the dumpsters, and "AB" over "X" in red marker. The maintenance person for City Centre said he believes it has been there for about a week.

Police discovered at 10:30 a.m. May 9 that someone had written in red and white paint "DAZE," "I like drugs," "ISU" and "HI" on a rear wall between 123 and 125 N. York Road. There were additional scribblings in black marker, including "XAS," "TEC" and "EC" with an upside-down pitchfork. One of the tenants told police the markings had been there for more than a year.
