Pedestrian Hit By a Car on Spring Road Monday Morning

Commuters, people taking their children to school saw person laying on the sidewalk near the Prairie Path.

Traffic was blocked off by emergency vehicles during the busy rush hour this morning at Spring Road and the Prairie Path after a person was hit by a car.

Hundreds of passersby saw a person covered with a blanket laying on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of Spring Road and Prairie Path Lane at about 7:20 a.m. One witness said she saw someone pick up a purple backpack from the sidewalk.

Preliminary information indicates the victim was a 16-year-old female York High School student, but the officer in charge of the investigation was still at the hospital at 8:30 a.m., so the information is "very preliminary," Police Chief Michael Ruth said.

Ruth said the pedestrian sustained minor leg injuries and was taken to the hospital by Elmhurst Fire Department paramedics.
